Location: We are seeking an experienced Unit Controller for the Beanfield Centre, Toronto, Ontario.

Beanfield Centre offers meeting planners an environmentally friendly meeting venue for groups of 50 to 3000delegates. The first LEED Silver (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) conference centre in Canada,Beanfield Centre is conveniently located on the shores of Lake Ontario at Exhibition Place.

Principal Function:

The Unit Controller takes direct responsibility for the financial affairs of the unit by overseeing cash management and credit transactions, general ledger entries, tax and compliance, payroll, accounts payable and receivable, as well as financial analysis and reporting.

With guidance from the Corporate Office and under direction of the Regional Controller, the Unit Controller will work in close partnership with the General Manager and will play a key leadership role in running an efficient, effective, and profitable food and beverage operation.

The Unit Controller will partner with the operations team and other department heads to ensure the development, implementation and enforcement of Sodexo Live!'s standards for accuracy, efficiency, quality and financial performance.

Essential Responsibilities:

Maximize Sodexo Live!'s revenue and operational excellence through implementation and oversight of systems and policies related to accounting and finance operations.
Prepare and submit weekly and monthly financial reports in a timely fashion.
Ensure that all accounting practices conform to generally accepted accounting principles and follow the terms of the venue contract.
Reconcile balance sheet accounts; Prepare monthly, quarterly and yearly financial plans and statements with supporting schedules while assuring company compliance with internal and external financial policies.
Conduct regular cash/vault audits.
Ensure that financial controls (i.e. inventory procedures, cash handling procedures, payroll time and attendance procedures) are in place within the operation, based on knowledge of corporate policies and procedures.
Assist in the annual budget process; Act as the liaison with corporate and regional offices in accounting and forecasting.
Contribute to the efficient operation of the business unit by partnering with General Manager and key department heads in providing information, insight, analysis and recommendations to maximize revenues and profits.
Contribute to goal of making Sodexo Live! #1 in Event Hospitality and the #1 Employer of Choice through personal commitment and leading by example.

Qualifications/Skills:

Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance or equivalent work experience.
5 years' work experience as a Controller or in a lead accounting/finance role.
Extensive experience with food and beverage operations, to include banquet, catering and/or concessions operations, bar procedures, sanitation requirements, alcohol compliance and regulatory issues affecting food service.
Exceptional knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost accounting and cost control principles and other accepted Accounting Principles.
Strong ability to analyze financial data and prepare ad-hoc financial reports, statements and projections as needed
Excellent knowledge of EXCEL/ACCESS and Microsoft Office Suite software, A/P, A/R, Payroll, G/L and cash handling; EBMS experience is an asset.
Proven ability to work with all levels of staff and management.
Excellent ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, with strong English fluency.
Initiative in identifying and resolving problems timely and effectively.
Ability to prioritize and successfully manage multiple and competing priorities in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
Ability to promote and participate in team environment concepts.
Self-starter who can work independently and on several tasks/projects simultaneously, and who can contribute to functional areas of the business outside of the finance area.

Other Requirements:

Able to work effectively and safely while subject to wet floors, temperature extremes and excessive noise; must be able to lift up to 50 pounds in weight; must be able to maneuver in an often tightly-quartered environment.

Hours may be extended or irregular to include nights, weekends and holidays.
