Coaches work with children, youth and families to discuss the material, problem solve and provide support.

Job Overview

The Manager of Finance plays a vital role in overseeing financial activities, ensuring accurate financial reporting, conducting in-depth financial analysis, managing risk and overseeing administrative functions within the nonprofit organization. This position would be a key member of the Leadership team reporting directly to the VP of Finance, HR & Risk. This position requires a strong understanding of accounting principles, financial analysis techniques, and risk management strategies within the context of nonprofit financial management.

Working with the Finance team, the Finance Manager would support the accounting function by producing and monitoring monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports. They would also develop financial budgets and forecasts while closely monitoring results . This role requires flexibility to work both as a team member and independently, with the ability to adapt to a changing and growing organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Accounting Operations:

Manage the day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring compliance with nonprofit accounting standards.
- Support accounts payable function
- Manage accounts receivable
- Payroll backup
- Backup to all finance clerk tasks
- Government remittances
Ensure accurate recording of financial transactions and maintain the integrity of financial data.
Implement and improve accounting processes and controls with consideration for the unique aspects of nonprofit accounting.

Financial Reporting:

Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards for nonprofits.
Oversee financial projections.
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Assist with coordination of external auditors during the audit process.
Assist with budget in creation, monitoring, and reporting.

Analysis:

Conduct thorough analysis to support strategic decision-making for nonprofit programs and initiatives.
Provide insights into performance, trends, and variances, emphasizing the impact on the organization's mission.

Risk Management:

Assist with identifying, assessing, and managing organizational risks that may impact the nonprofit organization's ability to fulfill its mission.
Develop and implement risk management strategies and policies specific to the nonprofit sector. This includes monitoring risk maps, identifying risks throughout the organization and the monitoring/follow up of risk management issues
Monitor and report on key risk indicators to senior management.

Compliance:

Stay informed about changes in accounting regulations and standards specific to nonprofits.
Evaluate, improve, and enforce proper accounting methods, policies and principles.
Ensure the organization's compliance with tax laws for tax-exempt organizations and other financial regulations applicable to nonprofits.

Administration:

Supports the administrative function of the organization including oversight of supplies, inventory, budget, procedures reporting, office equipment.
Support both physical and virtual office.

Other:

Evaluate and implement financial systems as required
Establish and maintain fiscal files and records to document transactions
Communicate financial information and analysis.
Collaborate with other departments to support initiatives aligned with the nonprofit's goals.
Other Duties as assigned

Education:

Bachelor’s degree OR Diploma in Accounting, Finance or related field

Required Competencies:

Advanced computer skills on MS Office, accounting software
Professional proficiency with English oral and written communication
Demonstrated organizational abilities and attention to detail
Must have proficiency with technology.
Ability to manipulate large amounts of data
Proven knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles, practices, standards, laws and regulations
High attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to work independently and part of a small team.
Previous experience with both Simply Accounting and ADP systems.

Experience:

Accounting: 3 years in Canadian Accounting Practices
Not-for-profit or Charitable experience
