Under the direction and guidance of the VP, Finance, provide general accounting, accounts payable, payroll and other duties to ensure the smooth functioning of the Accounting Department.

The successful candidate will have excellent organizational and communication skills, be a stickler for details, a self-starter and multi-tasker, and possess the ability to work independently as well as within a team environment.

MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY AND RESPONSIBILITY

Accounting:

Balance and monitor various reporting areas on a daily and monthly basis, including preparing supporting schedules and reconciliations for multiple balance sheet and income statement accounts to support operations and financial reporting

Update daily foreign exchange rates and cash management reports and process investment and foreign exchange transactions with AB Central
Process all required month end adjusting entries such as depreciation, property tax, prepaid accounts, foreign exchange, expenses, registered accounts
Ensure Lawyers/Real Estate Trust foundation submissions are made
Reconcile registered programs with Concentra

Accounts Payable:

Process invoices and accounts payable for all branches and administration office with proper coding and reconciliation
Confirm accuracy of invoices and review discrepancies
Liaise with third-party suppliers and prepare cheques for approved invoices by due date
Process employee and director expense claims and corporate credit card statements
Maintain accurate records of all paid invoices according to retention schedule

Payroll:

Complete accurate and confidentialbi-monthly payroll

Requirements:

Advanced skills with MS Office suite, including Excel and Outlook
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Solid planning skills, with attention to detail, and the ability to trouble-shoot & prioritize
Effective interpersonal skills coupled with sound judgment and decision-making ability
Self-learning and independent research; desire for ongoing learning and improvement
DNA-Banking system and FAS knowledge a bonus!

Education and Experience:

Education: Minimum of grade 12 education is required

One to three years relevant job experience or an equivalent combination of post-secondary education and experience

The Fine Print:

Perform duties from the Administration Office in Cochrane, AB
This is a full-time position, based on a 37.5-hour work week, Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm
Criminal and Credit checks are required (must be bondable)
Must have legal authorization to work in Canada for anyone other than current employer
